My Recipe for Pleasure is an immersive performance that delves into the creative journey, from the initial spark of an idea through the pleasure and pain of creative research to its ultimate joy. In this work, I intertwine my performance manifesto with the art of baking bread.
The audience is invited to experience the performance, which explores how pleasure and pain are intertwined in the creation of performances. This piece highlights the difficulties and obstacles creatives face in our neoliberal world and what it means to perform in order to 'put bread on the table.' It examines how we, as creatives, can collaboratively produce work and support one another within our practices. The first iteration of this performance text was collaboratively devised with V. Mazeris and X. Meng in 2023.
My Recipe for Pleasure was part of Making Expansive a group exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Forum London curated by Catherine Li. This show questions how we collaboratively exist within our material world and how our interactions reinforce this reality. It explores how we can reclaim our creativity and humanity in today’s hyper-connected society.
